writer & designer
IRIS TJOA CREATIVES | January 2020 – Present – The Hague, The Netherlands
Creative writer of short stories, blog and poetry for a number of clients. Author of the poetry novel laten we liefde, published in April 2020. In laten we liefde I write about love in an era that is defined by social media and ‘being seen’. In my current Master program I am invested in conflictstudies in the field of religion and I am researching Indo-Dutch Silence and Colonialism. My ideologies have sprung from my own sex, race and spiritual convictions. I am committed to actively contribute to a society that listens to repressed voices and strives for human rights equality. Decolonisation therefore, is a central theme in my writings and inquiries.
As an architecture graduate, I have always beheld a fascination for creativity and design. The designer is the translator between the imagined and the depicted, and carries out research through design. It is a continuous tension in unraveling the ends of the customer – whether a private individual, a municipality or an NGO – and offering the means. Visualisation and aesthetics play an undeniable role in the conviction of an audience – what I wish to achieve is my work to appeal to the imagination. I am employed in graphic design, interior, webdesign, film and the arts.
